In February 2013, the "GLOBAL SUCCESS I" (ex "SINGAPORE") 189 Bollard Pull ocean going tug, joined the Tsavliris Salvage Group tug fleet.
The 13,500 BHP salvage tug was taken over from Svitzer Ocean Towage at Galveston Texas, USA, by the new owners GMS (Global Marketing Systems). Tsavliris will undertake the full management of the vessel. She will be deployed in Ocean Salvage and Towage. She is a traditional fully fledged salvage tug with some anchor handling capabilities.
On Wednesday 30th January, Bulk Carrier "RBD ITALIA" (47,984 GRT – 87,334 DWT), laden with 43.380,86 M/T of grain, grounded at KM 452, Rio Parana, in the vicinity of San Lorenzo. Tsavliris salvage master boarded casualty on the same day. Refloating attempts, by using ship's engine and rudder commenced but with no success.
On the 31st January we contracted tugs "ONA DON LORENZO" and "LUCIANO B" which promptly mobilized from La Plata and Buenos Aires respectively, to the assistance of the casualty.
On the 1st February tugs arrived on scene and attempts to refloat the vessel were immediately undertaken. Local company "OSRO" was engaged to provide anti-pollution services. On the same day vessel was successfully refloated and anchored at San Lorenzo roads.
Both tugs remained alongside providing standby services.
On the 2nd February, mandatory post grounding inspection by the Coastguard and diving inspection on behalf of Class, were performed. Certificate of Safe Delivery was signed and following clearance by the Authorities the vessel sailed same day.
The two tugs demobilized towards Buenos Aires providing shadow escort
The New Year pitta cutting at TSAVLIRIS SALVAGE GROUP, an important traditional celebration, took place at the premises of the Piraeus-based international salvage group on Wednesday 23rd January. All employees, including officers from the Greek flag tug fleet, dear friends and close associates were present.
2012 was a good year for TSAVLIRIS, having signed 10 LOF's, and having performed a further 6 significant salvage/towage operations. The ceremony included a blessing with holy water by a priest and in conclusion, Captain George Polychroniou was honoured for his valuable services to the company.
Captain Polychroniou joined Tsavliris Salvage Group on the 12th December 1996, starting off as an Assistant Salvage Officer soon to be promoted to Salvage Master and then elevated to Operations Manager. George has been a dedicated and loyal member of the Tsavliris staff for over 16 years, continuously giving his all to the company. He participated in over sixty salvage operations worldwide and also managed a further sixty from the office. We are proud and honoured to have had him with us.
The pitta was cut and Captain Polychrioniou was the lucky one who won the "charm". A reception followed during which guests and staff enjoyed a pleasant festive event.
