TSAVLIRIS SALVAGE sponsored for the 13th consecutive year the Lloyd's List Greek Shipping Awards which were presented at a successful dinner event on Friday 24 November 2017 at the Athenaeum InterContinental Hotel in Athens.
The "Seafarer of the Year" Award is one which Tsavliris Salvage Group is honoured and proud to sponsor.
George A. Tsavliris presented the "Seafarer of the Year" Award to Captain Iakovos Papageorgiou Daniil.
On 20 November 2017, the semi-submersible drilling rig "EIRIK RAUDE" (GT 36,898) whilst laid up at Platygiali terminal - Astakos Port, Greece, broke loose from her moorings due to very strong winds. Tsavliris tug boats "HERMES" and "HERMES I" mobilised from Patras, Greece and on 22 November connected and shifted the platform back to her berth.
Read MoreOn 17 August 2017, the Bulk Carrier "SINICA GRAECA" (GT 35,884 - DWT 63,270), laden with about 50,000 tonnes coal in bulk, on passage from Indonesia to India was involved in a collision in Singapore Straits. Tsavliris Salvage were contracted to salvage the casualty and the operation lasted for over two months.
Nicolas A. Tsavliris was elected Chairman of the Hellenic-American Educational Foundation (Athens College), the largest and most prestigious school in Greece. Mr Tsavliris is a graduate (1966) of Athens College and was Vice-President/Treasurer of the school until recently.

The very successful 8th Hydra Shipping Conference took place on Saturday 9 September 2017, in Hydra's Cathedral Conference Hall and the theme was: "Money talks but wealth whispers".
Leading Greek shipowners, as well as senior shipping industry business executives, multinational and Greek company representatives, academics, consultants and members of Hydra's historic shipping families attended the conference.
The conference was organised by the Fraternity of the Athenian Hydriots and its President Mr John Sahinis. Mr George Tsavliris, Principal of Tsavliris Salvage Group, was the Chairman and Moderator of the 8th Annual Hydra Shipping Conference.
On 27 July 2017, the Bulk Carrier "TRIUMPH" (GT 30,661 – DWT 50,619) immobilised due to main engine problems approximately 1,050 miles west of Port of Ensenada, Mexico in the Pacific Ocean. During the incident the vessel was on a voyage from Port Rhoades, Jamaica to Longkou, China, laden with 47,000 tonnes of bulk bauxite. On 29 July, Tsavliris Salvage dispatched the MT "MICHELLE FOSS" to her assistance, from Seattle. The operation was completed succesfully on 15 August.
On 26 June 2017, the Bulk Carrier "VSC POSEIDON" (GT 40,357 – DWT 74,957) encountered main engine malfunction and anchored north of Salvador, Brazil. The vessel was en route from Mobile, USA to Richards Bay, South Africa, laden with 54,000 tonnes of shoal creek coking coal. On 26 June, Tsavliris Salvage were contracted to provide assistance. On 14 July, the operation was completed succesfully.

During the incident the vessel was on passage from Panjang, Indonesia to Brake, Germany, laden with 32,000 tonnes of Indonesian palm kernel expeller. On 18 June, Tsavliris Salvage were contracted to provide assistance and the operation was completed succesfully on 26 July.

Read MoreOn 20 July 2017, the general cargo vessel "MISTRAL" (GT 5,469 – DWT 7,321) was immobilised, due to main engine problem, while transiting the Dover Straits TSS and anchored 19 miles north east of Dover, English Channel. The vessel was en route from Constantza, Romania to Hamburg, Germany, laden with 5,000 tonnes of bulk corn. Tsavliris Salvage were contracted to provide assistance. On 24 July, the vessel arrived at Hamburg and the operation was completed successfully.
Read MoreOn 12 July 2017, the Bulk Carrier "NAVIOS ORBITER" (GT 39,727 - DWT 76,602) experienced mechanical failure and was immobilised approximately 64 nautical miles east of Lisbon, Portugal. The vessel was en route from the Amazon River, Brazil, to Lisbon and Amsterdam, laden with 55,000 tonnes of soya beans. Tsavliris Salvage were contracted to provide assistance. The vessel was towed to Lisbon and the operation was completed successfully on 17 July.
Read More- Motor Reefer "SCANDINAVIAN REEFER". On 25 March 2017, Tsavliris dispatched the AHT "DUTCH POWER" from Rotterdam to the assistance of the motor vessel "SCANDINAVIAN REEFER", laden with refrigerated products.
-LPG Tanker "GEMINI GAS". On 1 April 2017, the LPG Tanker "GEMINI GAS" experienced fire in the engine room about 132 miles south-east of Salalah, Oman. The vessel was on passage from Khorfakkan, UAE to Port Sudan, laden with 4.400 tonnes of LPG mixed.
-Bulk Carrier "ANASTASIA K". On 3 April 2017, the Bulk Carrier "ANASTASIA K" grounded off Rosario, Rio Parana at KM 420. During the incident the vessel was on passage from Rosario to Saudi Arabia (via Bahia Blanca) laden with 46,500 tonnes of grain.
Tsavliris Salvage Group took part in the annual Charity Rowing Competition held by Hill Dickinson LLP on 8 June 2017 at the picturesque Microlimano in Kastella, Piraeus and won the silver medal. Twelve teams competed in total and contributed to the charity 'Doctors of the World'. Last year Tsavliris men’s team won the gold medal.
