George Tsavliris was appointed to the Academic Board of Metropolitan College. The Metropolitan College was founded in 1982 and is the largest private educational organisation in Greece, with over 5,000 students on four campuses around Greece, offering a wide range of more than 55 undergraduate and graduate degrees, in partnership with five distinguished public UK Universities.

The inaugural SAFETY4SEA Conference in Cyprus successfully concluded on Tuesday 17 April 2018, at Columbia Plaza in Limassol, attracting 220 delegates from a total of 115 organisations.
Mr. George Tsavliris, Chairman, CYMEPA discussed the critical issues raised during MEPC72, including the reduction of GHG from ships, implementation of sulphur 2020 and measures to reduce risk of use and carriage of HFO in Arctic. Mr. Tsavliris referred to the chaos with the Paris Agreement concerning shipping.
Tsavliris Salvage has further expanded its fleet with its latest acquisition. The new tug "PROTEAS" (BHP 3,200 – BP 45T) was delivered on 19 March 2018 at Piraeus and is fitted with FIFI 1 capabilities.

Tsavliris Salvage were promptly contracted to provide salvage assistance. On 24 March, the casualty was successfully refloated by the tugs.

The vessel immobilised due to propulsion breakdown about 600 nautical miles west of Bishop Rock, UK. The operation was completed succesfully on 23 March 2018.
The very succesful 18th Mare Forum took place on 12 March 2018 at the Athens Holton hotel. The conference was titled "Everything is changing" and was chaired by Mr George A. Tsavliris. The Mare Forum conferences are considered to be among the most global and influential forums for the maritime and shipping industry.

Throughout the course of 2017 there have been 63 LOF contracts agreed and/or reported to Lloyd's. The figure is substantially up from the 49 reported contracts in 2016. Collectively the Greek salvage companies have performed 28 of the salvage operations with the Tsavliris Companies performing the most (12 services).

On 4 December 2017, the Bulk Carrier "DELFA" (GT 31,261 - DWT 53,594), immobilised due to camshaft problem about 700 miles north-west of Colombo, Sri Lanka, whilst en route from Chernomorsk, Ukraine to Magla, Bangladesh. The vessel was laden with about 50,000 tonnes of bulk wheat. The operation was completed on 12 December 2017.
