Piraeus Port Captain Club’s 30th Anniversary - 2012 Dec 04

On Monday 3rd December, on the occasion of the 30th Anniversary of the Piraeus Port Captain's Club, Mr. Nicolas A. Tsavliris was honoured to be proclaimed an honourary member for services rendered to the shipping community and the Piraeus Port Captain's Club. The "touching" event was held in the evening of the same day at the club's headquarters in Piraeus to mark this special day.

Captain Marinos Tsamis, the Port Captain Club's General Secretary, presented the history of the club and awarded the honourary memberships to various personalities from the shipping and academic field. Mr. Nicolas A. Tsavliris spoke the following words (translation) on receiving his award:

"Captain Marino - I would like to say a few words.
Thank you - thank you all - for the great honour that you have bestowed upon me today on the occasion of your 30th anniversary. Congratulations.
But I want to remind you that you Port Captains – in parallel with Superintendent Engineers actually run our offices – after previously having been in charge on board our ships.

So we should honor you more than you honor us. We shipowners should never forget that.
I wish all of you and your families' good health and courage.
I wish for our Homeland to overcome this difficult time in its history
I wish Captain Apostolos Mangouras to return from Spain to Greece - exonerated - and to enjoy the festivities with his family.
Dear friends - Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year."
