G.Tsavliris: Academic Board Member of Metropolitan College - 2018 May 17
The Academic Board of Metropolitan College decided to strengthen its membership by appointing Mr George Tsavliris to its Board.
The 2018 annual Board meeting took place on 16 May at the College's Maroussi campus, in the presence of the Vice-Chancellor of Solent University, who presented to the Board members the strategic direction of the University and praised the developing strong partnership with Metropolitan College.
Mr George Tsavliris is Principal of Tsavliris Group, as well as Chairman of Cyprus Maritime Environment Protection Association (CYMEPA) and has brought to the Academic Board considerable practical experience on all aspects of the shipping business, complemented by his genuine interest and experience on environmental issues and maritime education.
The Metropolitan College
The Metropolitan College was founded in 1982 and is the largest private educational organisation in Greece, with over 5,000 students on four campuses around Greece, offering a wide range of more than 55 undergraduate and graduate degrees, in partnership with five distinguished public UK Universities.
Faculty of Shipping
In its recently established Faculty of Shipping, the College is offering two undergraduate programmes [BSc (Hons) Maritime Business and BSc (Hons) Shipping and Port Management] and two postgraduate ones [MSc International Maritime Business and MSc International Shipping and Logistics], while from September 2018 the College is launching the first private Merchant Maritime Academy in Greece in partnership with Solent University of Southampton. The Maritime Academy will be housed at its new campus in the heart of Piraeus and will be training deck and engineer officers at the highest operational and technical level, ready for employment in the fleets of major Greek and international shipping companies.
Maritime Academy
The official launch of the Maritime Academy took place on 15 May 2018 at a gala dinner in the Athens Concert Hall, where more than 500 guests enjoyed Solent's special graduation ceremony. An honorary doctorate was bestowed on Captain Panagiotis Tsakos for his lifelong contribution to maritime education.
